I purchased Dogz 5 for my grand-daughter who loves the game. Everything was fine with the product till I upgraded Windows XP to Service Pack 2. After that the sound would no longer work. I get a message that the Sound System did not initialize. I have tried installing the latest DirectX driver from Microsoft. I also have checked to see if the sound was turned on in my screen saver. All other sounds and games on my computer works correctly and with sound. I am not getting any reports of other sound problems. I also tried un-installing and re-installing the program but this also did not work. Have you received other emails that are reporting the same problem? Is there anything that I can do that I have not already tried. My Grand-daughter really misses the game and I would like to get it working for her. I am also considering purchasing Catz but I am afraid that the same problem with the sound would occur. Your response is greatly appreciated. Michael Adkins

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I don't have SP 2 on my system, but I know someone who does. Let me talk to him about it and see what he says.
He has Petz on his system and as far as I know he hasn't had any problems with SP 2.

Ok, I got an answer from Daniel Wright, who has SP 2 and this is what he says: "The solution is easy, go to your Petz 5 installation folder and rename setupapi.dll to something like setupapi.bak - Petz 5 will now load without any problems. The problem only effects Petz 5 as Petz 4 doesn't include that file, and providing the game is patched it continues to run just fine on XP SP2." Hope that does the trick for you. If not tell us and maybe we can come up with something else to do.

The sounds do not work on my Petz 5 game. I tried looking for this setupapi.dll file but I can't find it (I searched my hard drive and couldn't find it either). I'm not sure what happened to it, I think my friend may have deleted it totally when he was trying to fix the sound for me. Can someone send me this .dll file? It would be greatly appreciated! misslyss1220@comcast.net Thanks!!! Alyssa

What is your operating system and do you have SP2 installed if you have WinXP?
The file should be in your Petz 5 folder (this is the path: C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\Studio Mythos\Petz 5).
It doesn't matter if the file is deleted or renamed, either way the sounds should work if you have SP2 installed on your computer.

I have Windows XP Home and SP2. I checked everywhere in the Petz folder and it's not there. What's weird is that the environmental sounds work but the petz themselves don't make any sounds... I'm so confused!!!!

Same here, thank you for this sound remedy. My 11 year old niece is really happy now that thw sound is working again. Leave it to Microsoft to go & mess everything up, lol.
